DEPARTMENT OF SWASTHVRITTA
INTRODUCTION:
Ayurveda’s preventive measures and health maintenance are key strengths, covered under Swasthavritta and Yoga. This subject is crucial is Ayurveda education, focusing on wellness and disease prevention. As per NCISM guidelines, Swasthavritta and Yoga includes modern preventive measures, Yog Shashtra and Naturopathy. The curriculum aims to create professionals who promote societal well-being through Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy. Our institution, Sumatibhai Shah Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, has a dedicated Swasthavritta and Yoga department to emphasize these aspects.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:Â
Upon completion, students will:
- Explain the concept of health and advise on healthy regimens (diet and lifestyle modifications).
- Counsel on food choices and usefuleness as diet consultants.
- Identify conditions leading to communicable and non- communicable diseases.
- Apply Ayurveda, Modern medicine, Yoga and Naturography for prevention and treatment.
- Understand primary health principles, components and National Health Policy for “Health for All”.
DEPARTMENTAL FEATURES:
 Library
 The Swasthavritta and Yoga department has its own library with texts and reference books on Ayurveda, Modern science, Yoga Shastra and Naturopathy. Teaching aids include CDs on pranayama, aasan and shatkarma, as well as audio-visual materials for PPT presentations on various syllabus topics
Museum & Yoga Hall
The department features a PG seminar hall, Nutritional lab and a museum with charts, models and specimens. Additionally, SGAK has a dedicated Yoga Hall with space for yogasana and related activities.                                           Â
DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES:
- Awareness programme – Lectures about ‘Health Education’ are conducted by the departmental teachers for school students of Sane Guruji Vidyalaya and Dhadgaon village school.
- N.S.S. activity – Departmental teachers & students participate in various NSS camps.
- Participated in Swarna prashan Shibir organized by our institute.
- For up gradation of knowledge, Faculties of the department participate in various ROTP, seminars, CME, etc.
- For modification and up gradation of syllabus department of Swasthavritta organized ‘Swasthavritta teachers workshop’ in 2006.
- Faculties of Swasthavritta contributed their efforts in ‘World Ayurveda Congress 2006’ and ‘Update on Ayurveda and Unani 2009′.
- Swasthya Rakshana OPD & Obesity Clinic is conducted by Swasthavritta department in Sane Guruji hospital. Consultation about the diet, lifestyle modification and Yoga is done.
- Educational tours – To gain more knowledge about some part of our syllabus, department organizes various educational tours like leprosy sanitarium, milk dairy, water purification plant, sewage treatment plant, primary health centre, MCH centre, etc.
- Guest lectures – Periodically Swasthavritta and Yoga department arranges guest lecture for students.
SPECIAL ACTIVITIES:Â
- Departmental Faculties have contributed their efforts regarding the Swine Flue prevention through Ayurvedic Dhoompana Regimen (i.e. Medicated inhalation by means of herbal products)
- Arranged National Seminar on Lifestyle Disorders – SWASTHYAM 2018Â in April 2018.
- In Covid 19 pandemic departmental staff and PG students served as Covid warrior in Covid care center, Covid care clinical room and Covid vaccination center at SGAK.
- Department have conducted ‘Ayuryog – National Webinar on Communicable Diseases and role of Ayurveda & Yoga’ in September 2020.
- Faculties and PG students of Swasthavritta and Yoga department actively participated in Hepatitis B vaccination campaign conducted by SGAK in 2025.
